Cost: $8 Youth | $6 Members and Friends of Reynolda Gardens at the Family level or above

Join us in the Gardens to learn more about the natural world around us. Each session will engage a young naturalist in hands-on learning as we closely study a topic while enjoying the Gardens and Grounds of Reynolda.

At each session, Reynolda Young Explorers earn a new “badge” and take home a field guide. 


Fall 2024 Dates and Themes
For ages 2 – 5 and their caregivers. All workshops are held 10 – 11 a.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 4: Ponds at Reynolda | Click to Register
Children will explore Reynolda’s ponds while learning more about this body of water. Children will also have an opportunity to “build” their own pond.

Wednesday, Sept. 18: Birding at Reynolda | Click to Register
Children will use binoculars to explore Reynolda’s North Carolina Birding Trail and learn how to make bird calls. They will also have an opportunity to construct a bird’s nest.

Wednesday, Oct. 2: Signs of the Beaver | Click to Register
Explore the Signs of the Beaver at Reynolda and build a beaver dam to test its water flow.

Wednesday, Oct. 16: Natural Seed Selection & Conservation | Click to Register
Children will explore and observe natural seeds found at Reynolda Gardens and Grounds. Participants will also use seed pods to show how to make birdseed.

Wednesday, Oct. 30: Pumpkins & Gourds | Click to Register
Children will explore the inside and outside of pumpkins and gourd grown at Reynolda.

Wednesday, Nov. 6: Begonias in the Brown Family Conservatory | Click to Register
Join us in the newly restored Brown Family Conservatory as we explore our Begonia Collection. We will learn about the subtropical climate as we explore the collection of begonias. We will also learn how begonias multiply through hands-on experimentation.

Wednesday, Nov. 20: African Violets in the Brown Family Conservatory | Click to Register
Join us in the newly restored Brown Family Conservatory as we explore our African Violet Collection. We will learn about how light affects plants and how forest tree canopies protect plants from too much light.

Registration is required; participants will receive an email prior to the program with the location for each.


Reynolda may take photos for archival and promotional reasons during the program.

If you do not want your child photographed, please email the program leader, Janie Bass, at janie@reynolda.org in advance of the program.

For children ages 2-5, accompanied by an adult.
