Reynolda House to reopen with a weekend of gratitude and the opening of “Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light”

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 3, 2020) – On Friday, October 2, Reynolda House Museum of American Art will reopen at reduced capacity, and with timed reservations required and additional COVID restrictions in place, for its members and volunteers, along with first responders and Wake Forest faculty and staff, and Wake Forest students as part of its reopening Weekend of Gratitude before reopening to the public. The museum has been closed since March 14 while Reynolda Gardens’ formal and greater gardens have remained open to the public. Museums in North Carolina are permitted to open at reduced capacity Friday at 5 p.m. as part of the state’s transition into phase 2.5 of easing COVID-19 restrictions. 

Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light will open on Oct. 2 as part of the museum’s reopening weekend and will be on view in the Mary and Charlie Babcock Wing Gallery through November 29. The exhibition was originally scheduled to open in March. Reservation links will be shared as soon as possible on reynoldahouse.org and all visitors will be required to sign up in advance for a timed admission ticket in order to control capacities. 

On Tuesday, October 6, Reynolda House will open its doors to the public at reduced capacity, and with timed reservations required and additional COVID restrictions in place.

In addition to Reynolda’s reopening weekend of gratitude, Bank of America cardholders will be able to sign up in advance for free timed admission to the museum on Oct. 3-4 and Nov. 7-8 as part of the company’s Museums on Us program. 

Health and safety guidelines

Reynolda House has been hard at work behind-the-scenes to develop thorough health and safety guidelines for its visitors, volunteers, staff members and the community. 

A preview of what visitors can expect at their visit includes the following: 

  • Visitors will be asked to maintain a six-foot physical distance from others and distance markers will be marked from the front desk out to the sidewalk.

  • Visitors five-years-old and above will be required to wear a face covering in accordance with state regulations. Face coverings and gloves will be available if needed. 

  • Visitors cannot tour the museum with a group larger than four or more.

  • Increased sanitation efforts will be in place. 

  • Visitors will be encouraged to leave large personal belongings at home or in their cars to limit contamination in coat rooms and lockers.

  • All staff members and volunteers will wear face coverings and undergo thorough health and safety training. Plexiglass has been installed at the museum’s front desk, and reduced capacity signage will be in place. 

Reynolda’s full COVID-19 health and safety policy details will be shared in the coming weeks on reynoldahouse.org/reopening. Upon reopening, the museum will continue to be open to visitors Tuesday-Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
