Volunteers Who Grow Together

Reynolda depends on the daily support of volunteers, who educate and enrich the lives of our guests by creating remarkable experiences both inside the Museum and outdoors in the Gardens. Reynolda’s range of available volunteer opportunities welcomes a variety of abilities and interests.

What do Reynolda Volunteers Do?
Lead Tours
Reynolda volunteers lead tours across the Village, Museum, Gardens, and Trails. Using an inquiry-based approach guides fostering curiosity and dialogue. *Docent Prep Class is a prerequisite.
Assist with Field Trips
Field trip volunteers assist with K-12 student visits to either the Museum or the Gardens. They support inquiry-based, active learning activities, ensuring students engage with Reynolda’s history or natural environment during their scheduled tour.
Assist in the Studios
Volunteers help prepare the space or materials (i.e., cutting paper). They assist participants with projects ensuring safety and encouraging creativity. They may also instruct visitors about processes or materials.
Greet Museum and Conservatory Guests
Volunteers greet visitors and help them find what they are looking for or introduce them to the different areas. They may review guidelines and orient visitors to the story of Reynolda.
Engage Visitors in the Historic House
Volunteers engage museum guests throughout the historic house. They help orient guests to various locations, offering historical context and interpretation of the art on view. *Docent Prep Class is a prerequisite.
Decorate
Volunteers decorate at Reynolda as needed. They help decorate for the Christmas season, handling antique glass ornaments and other period décor.
Assist in the Library & Archives
Limited Availability
Volunteers shelve materials and organize relevant materials for Reynolda and its collections. They handle archival collection materials (books, letters, papers) under the supervision of Reynolda’s archivist.
Garden
In the formal gardens, volunteers help prune, deadhead, harvest, mulch, weed, and water.
In the greater gardens, volunteers plant, clear brush, and cut vines.
In the Hoop House, volunteers transplant cuttings, plugs, bare root, and nursery stock into containers, as well as prepare plants for sale.
Community Day
Volunteers are essential to Reynolda’s Community Day. They greet in the lobby and exhibitions, host in the historic house, and assist with art activities.
Plant Sale
Our volunteers help make our Plant Sales successful! They help the entire week by watering plants, pulling orders, and helping our patrons.
Engage in the Community
Our volunteer corps extends our mission beyond the estate by engaging in meaningful community work where history, art, and service intersect. We collaborate with local partners to foster connection and support,
Learn & Grow Together
Our volunteers grow together through a culture of curiosity and shared discovery. We provide ongoing educational opportunities to deepen expertise and build community.
