Discover the lives of the men and women who helped build and shape Reynolda from a Jim Crow era working estate to a museum for American art.
Reynolda’s archivist Bari Helms will introduce you to multiple generations of the Reynolds family who called the Bungalow home alongside the butlers, governesses, maids, cooks, horticulturalists, farmers, and dairy workers who toiled to sustain Reynolda’s order and beauty.
Inspired by oral histories, documents, and photographs from the Reynolda archive, this multisession course will examine how the people of Reynolda connect with the larger picture of 20th-century American history and culture through the various issues of industry, race, women’s rights, progressive agriculture, tobacco, and the American Country Place Era.
Class meets weekly on Thursday afternoons. Registration covers all six sessions.
