Tuesday Gardening Series: Art Chadwick – First Ladies and Their Orchids

Upcoming Date and Time(s):
Sep 29, 2026, 12:30pm — 1:30pm

Location: Reynolda House

Cost: $5 | Free for Friends of Reynolda Gardens and WFU Faculty, Staff and Students

Join Art Chadwick of Chadwick and Son, Orchids Inc. (Richmod, VA) for an informative lecture on Cattleya orchids. For as long as cattleya hybrids have been made, breeders have been naming them after prominent women of the day. In the United States, 19 consecutive First Ladies have been honored beginning with Mrs. Woodrow Wilson whose husband was in office from 1913 to 1921.

This lecture highlights the iconic ladies, their namesake hybrids and the growers who made it happen. Copies of Art’s book, First Ladies and Their Orchids: A Century of Namesake Cattleyas, will be available for purchase and signing after the lecture.
